Content

Different middleware concepts (Queuing, RMI, Publish/Subscribe, Webservices, Tuple Spaces, Peer-to-Peer), Basics (e.g., transparency) and basic communication paradigms (e.g.,request/reply, multicast,…). One focus of the lecture are publish/subscribe systems.

Beside theoretical knowledge, the lecture also includes implementation tasks and conceptual tasks.

Learning outcomes

Students who have successfully finished this module have an advanced knowledge of middleware and its use for dealing with complex systems. They are aware of the conceptual differences of different types of middleware and know the corresponding advantages and disadvantages. They are able to select a appropriate middleware for a distributed application.

  • Bachelor in Computer Science or related
  • Knowledge on distributed systems
  • Solid programming skills
