Applicability

Informatik, Technische Informatik, ICT Innovation (MSc): Mandatory course in module Operating System Project

Summary

Virtualization is omnipresent in todays computing centers and poses a challenge for operating systems. One aspect is the scheduling of virtual machines that can greatly influence the performance of the virtual guests. It is a multidimensional problem, which on the one hand has to consider the global resource distribution and on the other hand the local resource distribution of every compute node.

The project will research the scheduling of virtual machines using OpenStack as VM manager. Possible topics are for example the composition of local and global scheduling decisions or the dynamic substitution of scheduling algorithms based on the users requirements.
