Applicability

Informatik (MSc) and Technische Informatik (MSc): Equivalent to module Operating System Project and Seminar

Summary

Multi-core systems are the standard for modern computer Systems. Many-core systems are the next step in the pipeline. Scheduling in the context of operating systems is the assignment of threads to processor cores. With the variety of possible applications the operating system should cope with the increase in number of cores and threads and the requirements of applications with regard to number of cores per application.

Gangscheduling and coscheduling provide a way to run multiple threads of the same application in parallel. In this project we will develop a centralized scheduler for gangscheduling and/or an adaptive scheduler that has special load sharing.

We are also interested in investigating the usage of graphical editors for the development of parallel applications.
